Our colorful herd of huacaya alpacas, located in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania was established with stringent criteria for top quality in fleece fineness, uniformity, and density; preferred physical conformation (teeth, topknot, physical proportions); and performance-based lineage (using alpaca lineages proven to produce excellence via Estimated Progeny Differences and show record performance). Sugar Hollow’s Care Package!
We’ve been there – over the moon about our brand new alpaca venture, and totally unprepared to provide the care that is needed. When we bought Macaria, our animal husbandry experience included dogs, cats, fish and, at one time, 72 gerbils. We learned from our mentors and promise the same to you.
Whether you buy from us or another farm, we recommend agisting (the alpaca term for boarding) your new friends for 3 to 6 months (assuming, of course, that you are inexperienced alpaca owners). While you participate in herd health days, farm chores, and shearing if the time is right, you’ll gain invaluable experience and knowledge. And then, when you begin to panic as the animals arrive on your very own farm, you can reassure yourself that you really do know what to do.
This is why we offer 90 days of free board for your newly purchased animals, whether you are new to alpacas or just need time to enlarge your barn. If you need to continue to agist, we will charge a nominal boarding fee.
We are happy to visit your farm to offer advice on barns, fences, etc. And once the alpacas are on your farm, we’re just a phone call away – cell phone numbers are on your purchase contract! We’ll be happy to advise on husbandry, management, breeding – we aren’t vets but we aren’t afraid to tell you to call one in. We love to tell our story and share the lessons we’ve learned on our journey.
If you purchase a breeding female from us, she comes with a breeding to your choice of a Sugar Hollow Herdsire. Purchase a full price breeding to a Sugar Hollow Herdsire, and we’ll offer you ½ price breedings to him for as long as he remains on our farm – to a dam purchased from us or one you purchased from somewhere else.
We offer a complete reproductive guarantee on all breeding stock, with a live cria guarantee on all breedings with Sugar Hollow animals. Crias born on our farm will receive free halter and lead training.
If you’re just getting started, or if you’re a small breeder (fewer than 5 breeding females), purchase a dam from us and we’ll include a free breeding to one of our herdsires – and we’ll guarantee a female cria (if the cria is a male, we’ll rebreed). And remember, you’ll get half price breedings to that herdsire for as long as he remains on our farm.
We’re happy to share stalls at craft shows, alpaca shows – we’ll provide transportation from our farm to any shows we are attending if you’d like. We can show your animal or guide you as you do it – and we’ll cheer you on!
